Description: The University of Houston College of Education’s strategic plan, launched in 2016-17 and modified in 2021, provides an overview of the College’s equity-centered mission and how that mission guides their strategic objectives. This artifact also walks readers through the strategic planning process step-by-step, showing how different stakeholders were invited to participate at each stage of the visioning process.
This artifact is a concise documentation of how the College intentionally used their mission statement to guide their strategic planning. It also shows the documentation of how their strategies were revised to show a more explicit commitment to equity and justice.
Why we selected this as an exemplar: Our team appreciated this artifact because of its detailed documentation of the College’s process for developing their belief, mission, and strategic objectives. This artifact also shows how intentionally and thoughtfully the strategic planning team invited participation and feedback from a wide variety of stakeholders at each step of the revision process. The University of Houston’s College of Education website and this artifact draw a clear line between their mission and beliefs and how those guide their strategic planning and action steps.
